Beverly Lewis began writing at age nine and is now a multi-NY Times bestselling award-winning author of more than ninety books for adults, teens, and children. A keen interest in her mother's Plain heritage inspired Ms. Lewis, who practically founded the Christian Fiction genre by writing about the Amish in a way that was accessible to all. Her writing style and use of this little known and even less understood community launched her onto the popular fiction lists and helped the genre gain popularity among more mainstream readers. Beverly Lewis’ stories have been published in eleven languages worldwide. Her first was The Shunning, which has sold more than one million copies to date and was made into an Original Hallmark Channel movie, along with The Confession and The Reckoning. Romantic Times has honored Ms. Lewis with a Career Achievement Award for Inspirational Fiction, Library Journal awarded her a Best Book of the Year designation, and she earned the Outstanding Achievement in "Letters" by The National League of American Pen Women. She has been interviewed by both national and international media, including Time magazine, the Associated Press, and the BBC. Ms. Lewis’ visit to the Anderson Library is part of the Library’s ongoing Story-Lines series. Story-Lines includes programs that allow audiences to discuss books with the author, and author-led workshops that relate skills and techniques.
