Just like the representatives from the non-profits decorate Christmas trees in unique ways for the tree festival, the egg-decorating challenge will be open to the same non-profits across the Upstate. The eggs – large, 16-inch blue and green, plastic, plain and undecorated – can be adopted and decorated. And just like the Festival of Trees, visitors to the World of Energy can cast their ballot for their favorite egg. “With the phenomenal success of the Festival of Trees, we thought another event along the same idea would become as loved as the community’s tree decorations are,” said Chris Rimel, manager of the World of Energy. “Another event was suggested by the folks who came to see the trees.” “Frankly, I think the eggs will be more challenging than the trees to decorate,” said Rimel. Almost 3,000 people came to the World of Energy in December for the Festival of Trees. Wednesday, March 15 is scheduled for when teams can take their egg to decorate. The eggs are returned to the World of Energy on Monday, March 20, with public view following through Friday, April 14. Votes may be cast during that time. The winners will be announced on Monday, April 17. Duke Energy will grant the first, second and third-place winners monetary awards in the amounts of $300 for first, $200 for second and $100 for third.
