2018 Young Professional of the Year Our Young Professional of the Year Award recognizes and honors an emerging leader who strives to meet the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishment, who devotes time and energy to their community, and who serves as a role model for other young emerging leaders. Originally from Gaffney, SC, this young professional graduated from Furman University with a BA in History in 2002, from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity in 2004, and from Clemson University with an M.A. in History in 2006. After earning his degree from Clemson, he worked at the University until 2010 as the Academic Advisor for Football and Men's Tennis programs. But in 2010, he made his way to Easley to serve as the Executive Pastor of 5 Point Church. Since joining 5 Point, he has overseen two building projects and the fundraising for both buildings, with the latest being a move to the old Walmart on South Pendleton Street in Easley. Naturally, his profession presents a unique opportunity to serve others and the community at large, but his leadership and service go far beyond the walls of his church. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Easley Chamber of Commerce, as a Founding Board member for Lakes and Bridges Charter School, the Board of Directors for the Easley YMCA, the Leadership Pickens County Board of Regents, a member of the Easley Rotary Club. In addition, he has served as a mentor at Gettys Middle School for the past two years as part of the Y Mentoring program, and he coaches several youth recreational sports with his children, and many days, can be found on the course with his 11- year old son. He is also a past graduate of Leadership Pickens County and former board member for the Foothills Fellowship of Christian Athletes. And most recently, he has begun work on the Task Force for Homelessness in Pickens County to attempt to establish a homeless shelter in Pickens County. And last but certainly not least, he greatly loves and values his family.... Michelle, his wife of 15 years, and their two sons, Hudson and Grayson. Please join us in honoring Lawson Clary as our 2018 Young Professional of the Year.
