2018 Pillar of Easley Our Pillar of Easley Award recognizes and honors a long-standing business that plays an active role in our community and is highly respected as an important contributor in making our community strong, vibrant and successful. Nationally, this organization was chartered by Congress in 1919, and today, their membership stands at approximately 2.8 million with more than 13,000 local posts worldwide. Established in 1945, the local Easley Post 52 has been welcoming veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces and military personnel, as well as actively serving our community for 73 years. They represent the nation’s largest wartime veteran’s service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in their community, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and providing continued devotion to fellow service members and veterans. Annually, Post 52 hosts the Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony, the Wreaths Across America program, and flag retirement services, as well as many fundraising efforts. In addition, Post 52 serves the youth of Easley. Sponsored by this organization, Boys State and Auxillary Girls State offer high school junions the opportunity to understand the rights and privileges, as well as the duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. Additionally, they sponsor the National High School Oratorical Contest to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States. The contest also promotes the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties, responsibilities, and privileges of American citizenship. Youth sports is another component of their service. During the past 70 years, millions of young players have enjoyed baseball through the local Post locations of the national organization, where players learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, leadership and good sportsmanship. In addition to their many veterans and youth programs, members of the local Post 52 are involved in many other community groups such as the Easley Downtown Business Association, Easley Chamber of Commerce, Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, as well as recognizes our local first responders and serves as the honor guard for local military and veteran funerals. Please join us in honoring American Legion Post 52 as our 2018 Pillar of Easley.
