2018 Cornerstone of Easley Our Cornerstone of Easley Award is not an award that is presented each year, but rather a very special award reserved for a company or individual whose leadership and vision are considered to be a “foundational cornerstone” for our Easley community. We had the honor of presenting this award to a very deserving recipient. A native of Easley, Joe Lesley was a graduate from Easley High School and attended North Greenville Junior College. He was passionate about sports and was not only an inductee to the Easley High School Athletics Hall of Fame, but also sponsored many local youth teams over the years. Joe was the proud and well-known owner and operator of Joe's Ice Cream Parlor, which he opened in 1972. Known as “Hot Dog” to most Easley residents, his nickname was a nod to one of his signature menu items...his famous hot dogs. And just last year, the business announced that 6 million hot dogs have been sold at Joe’s during the last 44 years. As a community leader and highly respected business owner, Joe was recognized as the Small Business of the Year by the Ealey Chamber of Commerce and served on the Cornerstone Bank Advisory Board. He was a frequent spectator and supporter of local high school athletics and was a faithful member of Easley First Baptist Church. Joe Lesley passed away on August 12 of last year, leaving behind a life-long legacy of servant leadership which will continue to serve as a cornerstone for business success and community pride. Quotes from several of Joe’s many friends are a testimony to the character of Joe Lesley, the love he had for Easley, and the lasting impression he has left on our hearts. “Joe is a shining example of what it means to be a meaningful part of a community. He loved others just as much as they loved him. And everyone loved Joe.” “Joe was the man who never met a stranger, treated everyone like family, and always had a kind word at the ready.” “Joe was never one to miss a good opportunity for a laugh. He had a knack for bringing a smile to your face and almost a sixth sense when someone was troubled.” “Joe was not only a member of his church, but he also had a congregation of his own through the restaurant. I would say he was probably the most effective pastor in Easley.” “We should all strive to carry on his legacy by loving our neighbors and helping others.” "Our city lost an icon. We all love you, Mr. Lesley." Please join us in honoring Mr. Joe Lesley as our special 2018 Cornerstone of Easley recipient. His wife, Carolyn, and his daughters, Julie and Carol Jo accepted the award in his honor and memory.
